A far more likely scenario: all the recent political violence we’ve been seeing is the result of unstable individuals in a politically divisive climate with unfettered access to firearms.

The people that fund the right refuse to let a penny of their money go towards taxes to pay for public services, but they will literally throw absurd amounts of money at anything that promotes their agenda. The really sad thing is, there is some truth to the left (or at least the Democratic party) becoming so comfortable being cemented in established norms and institutions, that they have managed to become exclusionary and made a big chunk of the U.S. feel alienated.
Like a lot of the institutions on the left have become what the Republican party was when the new right was first forming. Everybody “new” actually has connections to somebody already established in the party. They’re usually somebody’s kid, relative, or family friend, or they attended the same Ivy League and were recruited by somebody in the establishment.
I read a really interesting article years ago that spoke about that happening on Communist China back in Mao’s time. Essentially all the folks who were competent retired/replaced by folks with connections to the party not the role. Thus corruption infiltrated.
I can’t find the article and I don’t remember the professor’s name who wrote it but I remember thinking it was odd that a Chinese professor was writing about the government and letting it be published. I think he may have gotten in trouble after the fact or something else.
