Take this example for instance:
fn doMath(x: anytype) @TypeOf(x) {
// …
}
There is no way to know what that function requires as input.
Of course you can’t know. That function has no requirements. As such there’s only one thing it can do… return x
. Anything else is making an assumption about the parameter being passed.
I thought TrumpCoin was the sovereign’s wealth fund.
Thank you, that was exactly my intension.
However, I think that comment is already dead.
So a trade deficit equals a subsidy in trump’s brain.
The US has a trade deficit with most of the world. If he goes 0% -> 25% on all imports it’ll be about $1T in funds moved from private hands into government coffers. (Of course, not all countries have 0% import tariffs today).
Would this be the biggest tax raise in American history?
Living through Brexit, I get all this.
It all only holds if there are alternative suppliers that are cheaper than the new escalated price for the goods you placed tariffs on. Canada and the US have the (mis)fortune to have extremely easy transportation of goods between them, but expensive transportation of good to/from anywhere else. That’s the geography and there’s no getting away from it, just like the UK can’t float away from Europe. America isn’t going to stop importing (to imagine a bullshit example) lumber from Canada because shipping it from anywhere else is impractical and domestic supply won’t be able to deal with the shortfall. Similar for Canada.
Both sides are engaging in massive acts of self harm, and Canada trying to go punch for punch isn’t a winning strategy. Canada has to respond in a smarter way than a reflexive mirroring move.
A telephone call requires him to respond without his team in the loop. He’s not opening himself up to that.
Since taking office I’m getting more and more convinced that he’s in two modes. Teleprompter mode, where his words have been agreed upon by his team, and twitter rant, where he’s just spouting his own bile.
He never speaks candidly in person since winning the election. Even the press room statement after the air crash was a prepared piece with all the hate baked in. Sure he took some questions but they were predictable and mainly deflected.
I’m waiting for him to announce “Operation Get-behind-the-darkies”.
Bend over and take what? Trumps declarations have no effect on Canada.
Canadians pay Canadian tariffs on US imports. Trump is fucking America already with his tariffs. Canada mirroring them gives Trump what he wants.
How wide spread are the other coalition members? Does it span the spectrum or is it mostly right?
There’s already CANZUK

“It’s nonce-sense”
Some others have ideas.
Self harm isn’t an effective strategy. Do something that actually hurts the US.
So, is Canada going to import what it gets from the US (it’s only geographic neighbour) from elsewhere?
If the answer is “no, not without at least a 26% jump in cost” then the tariff is a bad response.
Damn it Canada! Tit for tat tariffs are not the answer.
Respond for sure, but now you’re taking money out of your own citizens pockets to spite him. That idiotic.
Pfft… just buy some $TRUMP crypto coin. The graft is all out in the open now.
I think this has passed a lot of people by. When Trump announced his crypto scheme he was saying to the world “This is how you buy the power of the president with no paper trail”. Foreign powers can funnel billions through it for favours.
It’s corruption on a unprecedented scale, even for a political system that runs on continual “fund-raising”.
Something sweet (acidic) will break it down too. I find fruit juice or a soft drink will work better for me than milk.
