Everyone so god damn snarky on Lemmy.
I don’t “honestly think” that. I don’t really have an opinion. I’m just explaining the article to you.

Exactly. No one is thinking “right this is our big chance to build a toothbrush factory”.
Setting aside the tariffs on the production line you need to buy from China…
All your precursor would need to come from China anyway.
Couple that with the cost of maintaining local safety regs and I’d be surprised if you could put a product on super market shelves thats cheaper than the tariffed one.
You may have misunderstood the article.
There’s a trade agreement that says no tarrifs in exchange for respecting IP which includes not breaking digital locks.
If the agreement is out then there’s nothing preventing Canada from allowing their citizens to circumvent restrictions against repairing their own tractors for example.
I’m morbidly fascinated to see how all of this shakes out.
Everyone on the left is saying it’s a terrible idea with very predictable and deleterious consequences.
Trump seems to think it’s as great as it sounds at face value - tax things that sound bad and get money.
Either way it will be a feature of economics text books for centuries to come.
Obviously I want to see Trump fail spectacularly, but it fucking sucks that would harm those of us who can least afford it.
If you went shopping last week and half value of your purchases originated in Canada or Mexico, then will the same purchases next week cost 12.5% more ? That’s pretty staggering inflation
Fair enough.
It seems like on an e-bike Lithium would be the go due to it’s higher energy density.
On a trailer you can house it in something appropriate and the size and weight requirements aren’t as restrictive.
It seems like keeping the battery is a common practice when selling a trailer. That’s why mine doesn’t have one. A lot of people would never use one if they’re always parked in someone’s yard or in a powered site.
I doubt we will really need a battery at all over the next 6 months with the trips we have planned. Probably better to hold off until we have a few trips under our belt to determine exactly what appliances we’re really going to need.
Thanks! The other reply obviously meant well but was a bit mansplainey !
My situation is, I’ve recently purchased a camper trailer. It’s wired up but needs a battery. I haven’t had time to “research” other than seeing what batteries people are selling second hand. It seemed to me that everyone was using AGM batteries for this purpose and while I knew that AGM referred to the physical structure of glass mesh I had assumed it was synonymous with deep cycle batteries.
Now I’ve read about it a bit more I realise that LiFePO4 batteries are superior but more costly.
I guess, the reason why I was seeing AGM batteries everywhere is because everyone’s buys them because they’re cheap and then realises they really needed LiFePO4 so they try to sell the AGM and upgrade.
I thought AGM were considered “deep cycle”, as in designed for their full capacity to be used between charges.
Yeah. I really dislike this “rule” because it’s commonly espoused by motivational speakers and efficiency “experts” saying you make 80% of your money from 20% of your time.
It sounds great if you’ve never heard it before but in practice it just means “be more efficient” and is not really actionable.
I think they’d tried and failed this one before.
My situation is somewhat different because I’m in Australia. Presently we have a center left government, but they’re quite impotent like Biden, and as a society we’re sliding to the right like everywhere else.
That said, I’m particularly concerned about the rise of fascist groups. I’m seems their recruits are usually disenfranchised young men. I have no illusion about my ability (or lack thereof) to “reach” members of that segment, but I can certainly support the organisations that can, with both time and money.
Ah yes. Silly me. I’m sure Palestinians are looking forward to living happily ever after under trumps protection. This whole “ethnic cleansing” thing is just the news media I’m sure.
I feel you.
There’s all these problems and everyone just seems determined to make them worse rather than working on solutions. It’s bonkers.
Sometimes “trying” is counter productive.
Sorry mate this dumb factoid doesn’t withstand even a moment’s scrutiny.
If you donate $10 you might save $3 in tax but you lost all $10.
The Gates Foundation might use a few cents from that $10 for fancy dinners for Gates and his wife or whatever but there are auditors to ensure that the money is used for the people they purport to help. Their records are public and I can assure you that if there were any wrong doing whatsoever the internet would be afire with every detail.
You know, I used to worry about China taking over the world, but honestly they look like a much better choice for a super power than the US is now.
I for one welcome our new communist overlords.
I think I saw a post about exactly this.
I think with a lot of technologies the first 95% is easy but the last 5% becomes exponentially harder.
With LLMs though I think the problem is conflating them with other forms of intelligence.
They’re amazingly good at forming sentences, but they’re unable to do real actual work.
Google added that the name Gulf of Mexico will remain displayed for users in Mexico. Users in other countries will see both names, the company said.
Yeah. “Both Names” for other countries is a bit lame but better than just Gulf of America everywhere.
The Denali / McKinley thing is pretty awful though. I hadn’t realised Trump had changed that too.
Lemmy seems so snarky lately.
