Lmao, are you making a moral argument against acting according to morals?

The sad truth is that turning on Israel would have done more damage to the democrats electorally than it would’ve helped.
“Our country just wants genocide too much” is quite the take.
I love this logic because it doesn’t even matter how bad the position is - we could be arguing against sending immigrants to gas chambers and you could still say “sorry, they can’t run against that because they’d lose more votes than they’d gain”. Nevermind the fact that they helped to create the political reality that they are now claiming to be helpless against. They spent the last 80 years making Israel into the centerpiece of middle eastern foreign policy and now they can’t speak out against an ongoing genocide because they might lose their control and influence in the region.
Even better - some of the same people saying ‘gaza isn’t the reason we lost’ are also saying ‘we lost because we’re too woke’ - it shows just how much contempt the democrats have for their base that they dismiss the problem being with their genocidal foreign policy and instead blame their loss on being too friendly toward minorities.
The US has routinely abused their position in the global market to disenfranchise and abuse nations that get on their bad side, wtf are you talking about
I thought about it, but I have a couple other services that could benefit from getting dedicated gpu anyway. Might as well just save for a proper PCIE card.
cool, i might try it
I wanted to get a dedicated card for video transcription anyway, but it’s good to know I don’t necessarily need it.
I’m curious what you’re doing with frigate/ how you’re doing it without a graphics card?
I’ve been using it for object detection, but i had to install it on my workhorse because my server doesn’t have a graphics card. I suppose it doesn’t need one if you’re not doing ml processing, but I’m still curious
Tldr - selfhosting is useful when:
you need a lot of storage
you need a lot of processing
you are collaborating with multiple people/family members
you are sharing media with other people outside your network
you are sharing media across devices
you want a standalone backup independent of your mobile device without doing so manually
you want more advanced AI features that are not feasible to do on device (such as image detection or live security camera object detection)
you want your home IOT devices to work locally without a cloud connection
you have old hardware collecting dust and want to put it to use
you like to make things
Seems like you might have understood the purpose of those apps, you just didn’t personally have those needs yourself, and that’s fine
I’m just trying to follow your use of the word fanboy bud, take a chill pill
if approving a ban reversal for tiktok is ‘fanboying’ trump, then approving of biden for not being an out and about nazi seems like an equally obtuse of the word ‘fanboying’
There’s a hell of a lot of obfuscation happening in your word choices
Was this communist ‘fanboying’ a neoliberal capitalist? That doesn’t sound right…
pot, kettle
IDK, I know a lot of neo-nazis who’d say ‘fuck trump’ in response to him being willing to work with Israel
Any time I see a lib complaining about being banned on .ml it’s almost always because they earned it by saying something xenophobic or reactionary
for attacking Trump
attacking him for what, I wonder
We’re being real loose with the term ‘fanboy’ now, huh
Is the reason you advocate avoiding VPN dependencies simply due to downtime if the tailscale service fails? Or is there a particular security vulnerability associated with using VPN subnets?
Fair enough, but if you’re trying to avoid data collection then open-sourced projects are preferable
Preaching to the choir here but LibreOffice has been excellent since my MSOffice license expired. Unless you’re working in an enterprise setting with MS-specific macros or online collaboration, there’s no reason to be paying for basic document editing software in 2025.
There are also self-hosted and open-sourced collaborative editing suites available that I haven’t tried yet, but there are plenty of options
Was something supposed to happen?
A massive, comprehensive data privacy law would’ve covered the TikTok base and any software by any other threat
That’s assuming the ban is motivated by privacy reasons, but i don’t think it is. It’s far more likely that it’s because the US has no control over the platform’s algorithm, which they fear is feeding Americans media and perspectives that are antithetical to their foreign policy objectives (Blinken and Romney have both stated as much).
A US buyer would be more friendly/responsive to US regulatory influence. That’s the only reason this isn’t a privacy bill instead of a ban or forced sale.
There has been no official announcement that such a change is coming, but Reddit commenters speculated that possibly the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) was requiring a change to stop American TikTokers from using the app to influence Chinese citizens.
Ah, that trustworthy and unbiased group of China experts that are Redditors
Two sentences before this they were explaining quite clearly why chinese users might actually be bothered by the flood of american users and why they might want the ability to filter by IP region, but because some redditors speculated that the SeeSeePee doesn’t want the Americans to spread their freedom-loving germs to their country then that must be why they’d do it, if that rumor were to be proven true
