I would use the terms as they mean depending on the context of the conversation and who the audience is. If I know that my audience is American and probably less knowing of the original meaning of the terms, I would use the words liberal and conservative as they mean in American mainstream sense. But if I know that the audience is knowledgeable enough to know what the word liberal means in the classical sense, I would use the term in such a way.

Before reading any articles concerning Deep Seek’s origin, it took me awhile to realise that they probably stole the data and technology from Western AI developers. Developing a better AI and as open source that quickly is pretty much impossible. And everyone knows that CCP steal IP and technology from the West so it’s unsurprising.

Of course the earlier models of anything are bad. Although the entire concept and practicals will eventually be improved upon as other foundational and prerequisite technologies are met and enhances the entire project. And of course, all progress doesn’t happen overnight.

I’m not fanboying AI but I’m not sure why the dismissive tone as if we live in a magical world where technology should have now let us travel through space and time (I mean, I wish we could). The first working AI is already here. It’s still AI even if it’s in its infancy.

The 00s was still pretty homophobic in spite of small steps that you mentioned. I grew up in 00s and I remember the kids would casually use the word gay to dismiss something they don’t like. Then when I was adolescent, it’s a social death sentence to be rumoured as a gay person.

He still has given away a lot of his wealth to charities, to be fair. He was the richest man after all until Elon came. But Gates is still a billionaire (only because of his underhanded business practices) in spite of donations so he’s still evil but to a lesser extent.

Gates is a “lesser evil” billionaire but he advocated not to revoke the patents on Covid-19 vaccines during the height of the pandemic. I understand the need for innovation, but screw him for still being greedy in the face of immediate crisis. He is two-faced nonetheless.

Yeah, I believe this is what goes on in the minds of many people. They are single issue voters.

We still have this notion and hubris that we’re above animals, and animals are below us who are alright being stepped on and abused. I noticed that in a lot of cultures, their insults and profanities is being compared to an animal (in Europe, the profanities seem to be generally sexual).

Also, for the religious, admitting we’re animals is definitely an insult and denial of biblical teachings that god created humans. When Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution first became a mainstream sensation, some cartoonists drew him as a monkey. I debated with a religious before who believes in conspiracy theories. After pointing out about evolution, I was called a monkey. I wasn’t even insulted though because, yes, that is basically what I’m trying to say. But technically I’m not a monkey, I’m an ape. Humans are apes. The monkeys are our cousins. Religious folks don’t like to admit we’re animals because it contradicts their beliefs.

I did say 1984 is probably not apt for those under tween age. The cartoon post depicting the kids don’t look like tweens. They look like seven or eight years old or maybe even younger.

1984 is more appropriate for adolescents than for kids under tweens. If anyone has read the ending, the imagery in Room 101 is pretty graphic. There are also sexually suggestive imagery in the middle of the book.

The best dystopian book for kids that warns of authoritarianism would be Fahrenheit 451 and Animal Farm imo. The latter was my introduction to George Orwell by my teacher just before I entered adolescence.
