I mean what they can do I’ve said. What I expect is a lot more damage from the Trump administration. Democrats are generally on board with reigning the administration in and/or stopping it, depending on what happens.

Unfortunately the majority for most things sit with Republicans, so it will be slow getting them to respond to Trump. I expect a few Republicans will chime in from time to time, might help stop a few things. Of course Congress lacks the resources to enforce things, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens there.

Eventually Trump is going to go too far. I would argue he already has, but specifically he’s going to go too far for Republicans. The speaker, Johnson, is the one to watch. I think McConnell still has some sway, but he’s also clearly very ill physically. Actually Republicans that are usually quiet are probably the ones to watch first.

Yes, what congress WILL do versus what they SHOULD do are different things.

If you look at things like the recent Gaza statements by Trump I think it’s clear Trump is going to continuously step over the line and others will need to walk it back. Eventually that someone will be congress, I just hope it’s sooner rather than later, although I fear it will be later rather than sooner.

Because that’s what makes it funny.

Any real brand would work, but “Have a Let’s™ Brand Potato Chip” reminds you that it’s fake. By having a real brand you have that brief moment of confusion before realizing it must be fake, but it’s funny to think about the “what if”.

If it is real advertising, then kudos to Cinnabon for being early to the game. It will be like Branded Twitter accounts where Wendy’s capitalized early, it was funny, but now no one cares.

Impeach and remove Trump. Yes, a Vance administration might do the same things but Congress would make it clear they’re not willing to allow such bullshit.

Congress CAN do a lot of things, they were designed to be a powerful pillar of government. They have ceded much of that power through inaction over the years but they can take it back.

And reading an article from TechCrunch,

So it definitely is pitching that is it decentralized and federated. Maybe the argument is that it “will be”, but at the moment it is not and at the moment it does not look like it will be an actual possibility.

Now people leaving Twitter is great, don’t get me wrong, but it’s possibly just kicking the can down the road. In a few years we’ll likely have articles complaining about missing “Old Bluesky” and how “new Bluesky” has the exact same problems that “Old Twitter” had.

Even with verification the Internet will be full of misinformation.

Let’s look at the recent 2024 Springfield pet-eating hoax. A woman, who I can lookup the name of, posted that she heard people in her neighborhood were eating cats and dogs. That misinformation quickly spread and was shouted at a US Presidential debate.

While the woman who originally posted it apologized, no one who spread that misinformation did.

While verification might help keep some people honest, it’s likely only going to keep those already honest, honest.

Sure, but even if TikTok sold it wouldn’t solve the problem. Hell them not selling also doesn’t solve the problem.

The problem is that data is gobbled up and sold. Data/privacy protection laws to stop that would be useful.

So technically you’re right, but the law they passed left a HUGE loophole. And by loophole I mean just don’t be based on those counties and you can gobble up whatever data you like.

The law as written states “…However, the prohibition does not apply to a covered application that executes a qualified divestiture as determined by the President.”

It goes on the clarify in a little more detail what a " qualified divestiture" is, but ultimately the determination seems to be by the President.

Trump can “make a deal” that he considers a “qualified divestiture” and allow the app again. For example ByteDance can sell TikTok to AmericaDance, a new company that just so happens to work for and does everything ByteDance does.

Now this wouldn’t hold up in any real court, but that would take A LONG time to resolve at which point Trump declares a win and likely everyone just moves on. Bonus during the 2028 election Vance or whomever can say that Democrats want to ban TikTok.

To be fair I think she uses and is referred to as Carol during the entire film. In the sequel two characters use the name “Marvel”, one “Ms” and one “Captain”.

Of course it’s still surprising that you could watch a whole film and not be clear. In the first film there a very clear main character, and you know what film you’re watching, so that’s simple enough. In the second film one of the main characters fangirls over the character named “Captain Marvel”, so that’s straightforward.

Even worse when you accidentally see the video/article title before seeing the movie, and now expect an ending open to interpretation.

It’s wild to me that this comic is 8+ years old (I’m unclear on the exact origin) and one of the first times I saw the term “woke”.

Now it’s parroted by right-wing assholes whenever they don’t like something.
