  • She thinks that if she just plugs in the plug to charge it, that the people at appleHQ won’t let her phone charge because they don’t like her. So she first turns on airplane mode, so that they have no communication with her phone, and can’t see what she’s doing. THEN she turns OFF the phone, so that her phone won’t know it’s her charging it.

Yes, I realize NONE of that makes sense. At all. That’s kind of my point that she’s not going to be learning anything new about technology. I just nod my head, yes mom, the people at appleHQ can’t see you now…go ahead and charge your phone…

    While rolling my eyes internally.

I think the main takeaway here is, Bob Ross should have had a show where he traveled the globe and done different jobs every week.

And people are stressed out, and he’s like “Oh, would you look at this? Looks like I neglected to do change this filter here. That’s ok. We can just change it now. Happy little water!”

And the guy he’s with is like “uhhhhh, what? How long has that filter not been installed?”

“Oh, only about an hour. It’ll be our little secret!”

“Anyone who’s drank water in the past roughly 40 minutes could get violently ill, with complications up to and including death!”

    “Happy little grave stones.”

    “WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU???”

  • To be fair…based on it knowing who it is, and what he’s doing, if you hadn’t seen it with your own eyes it doesn’t sound plausible. Like if you heard that there was nazi salutes being done at the official presidential inauguration, you’d think “ah, this guys exaggerating. He probably made a small gesture that’s being taken out of context”

Except no. He full on did a nazi salute. Enthusiastically at that. And then he thought “Oh, my bad, the people in the back probably couldn’t see that. LET ME DO ANOTHER NAZI SALUTE FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK BEHIND ME!”

And he did it A SECOND time!

It’s not chatGPTs fault it’s unable to discern absurdity from reality at this point. You can’t blame the program for what life has become. I fully expect The Onion to publish an article over the next 4 years that just says “We give up. Fuck it. We can’t make up crazier shit than NPR at this rate.”

  • At this point it’s less about the current quality of the product, and more about the company. I had every right to have my item replaced. I was within warrenty. It’s not MY warrenty policy. I didn’t set the terms. I didn’t set the duration. They did. They said if any issues arrise within a certain time of purchase I could get a replacement. I had the proof. I sent them the proof. I was told something along the lines of “In this case we’re not able to replace the drive”. When I asked what was wrong, I was told it was a high capacity drive with an electronic failure point. I even called on the phone, pulled up a pdf of their warrenty and asked them to show me where in the warrenty there was an exclusion for this situation. They didn’t even attempt to try. They just argued that it couldn’t be done, because the drive failed. I said "Yes. The drive certainly did fail within warrenty period. That’s what’s covered within the warrenty. That’s the whole purpose of the warrenty. To provide reassurance to the customer that if they should so happen to buy one of the 1% of drives with a malfunction beyond their control, that the product they paid for will be replaced without worry. "

They then told me I was wrong, transfered me to their boss, and while on hold hung up.

I understand if I buy a western digital, I run the risk of also buying a dud drive. However I assume they will honor their warrenty.

Seagate doesn’t need to honor any warrenty. They don’t need to offer any warrenty. However as the customer, I’m free to inquire about warrenty terms before buying. If I see a product that does not offer warrenty on new items, or doesn’t allow returns? That tells me the company doesn’t stand by their product. It’s then MY decision on if I want to gamble.

Seagate DID offer a warrenty that they set the terms for. That tells me they stand behind their product. So when they told me no, and gave no reason besides “the drive is dead”? That’s called bait and switch. Which breaks trust between customer and business.

They might have 36TB SSD hard drives at $100 that they guarentee will last 100 years. I still won’t buy it, because I’ve lost trust in the company to stand behind their claims.

And here we are, 20 years later. Still haven’t bought a single seagate product since. And often times being interested in a sale or offer, until I saw the brand. I’ve multiple times in 20 years went out of my way to avoid seagate.

And if they would have honored the warrenty? I’d have moved on from any grudge. Back when Logitech was still a good company I called and asked how much to repair an out of warrenty mouse I have. I understood I’d have to pay. I was getting a price quote to see if it was worth it, as I LOVED that mouse model in 2000. Sad when it died in 2006. Dude on the phone just said “Ah, here. Lets not even repair it. I’m just going to send you the same model”

And sent me a brand new (old stock) replacement of the same mouse I had. That mouse lasted until 2014.

So I used the same model mouse from 2000-2014. And I also still buy logitech products, even though I recognize the company is not as high quality as they used to be. Call it nostolgia, call it brand loyalty, whatever. It still just feels right buying logitech, and a huge part of that is what they did in the past.

Here’s my thing. I treat people how they act. Not how they try to appear. So if you SAY you’re an of-age legal adult wanting to purchase wiskey, but 20 minutes ago I saw you in the dumpster feasting on garbage, I might realize you’re actually 3 raccoons in a trench coat.

Trump tries to make his image of himself as some great leader, with a name of class, and a winning mindset.

However, I see him as a decades long conman and criminal who has gotten away with all his crimes. Democrat voters like to treat him like he’s gonna get his. He’s gonna be held accountable next time, just wait.

I don’t. I do not look for his crimes to ever see him held accountable. He’s forever untouchable. And he knows it. He even publically bragged that he could shoot someone on 5th avenue, in broad daylight, and get away with it. And he’s right. If he did that, he would not see punishment. Don’t look for it to happen.

I still see him as a conman, and a sexual predator, and a criminal, and a bad faith actor. He’s a greedy fuck who’s only there to enhance his own ego. It’s not even about wealth to him. It’s about power and ego. Money is just the high score to him.

And so you think yin and yang, if the republicans are evil, democrats have to be good, right? Ehhhh…

The democrats like to present the image of being good, but again, 3 racoons in a trenchcoat. Politics have gotten so sports minded of cheering for your team that everyone has lost track of actual policy. Democrats create headlines, and soundbytes. Not policy. They like to say “oh look. We TRIED to pass this law, but republicans said no.”

Fuck that. We’re not talking about some meaningless topic here. We’re talking about healthcare, peoples rights, education, abortion, food and drug safety guidelines, access to water, real world shit that literally affects life and death situations. You can’t just say “well we tried, and failed, better luck in 4 years, ol chap!”

We are not living in a world where republicans are acting in good faith, and have one set of opinions and views, and democrats are acting in good faith and have an opposing set of views. If that were the case, I’d be mad at voters. Because at that point voters would actually be in charge of whos ideas are implemented.

Instead, republicans are ticketmaster, and democrats are the band. There’s all these bad ideas that everybody wants to get implemented. But democrats can’t do that. Its against their image. So instead, they put up a weak fight against someone who openly acts as facists. While they get to pretend they did something to stop it.

I mean my god. 2024 had almost as many featured republicans as democrats at their rallys. You bring on Beyonce, but she doesn’t sing. Can’t have people having too much fun at your rallys. People might actually turn out and vote.

Then you run the same gameplay as you did in 2016, against the same guy you lost against in 2016. There’s a teenager who works at my job. Real dumbass kid, but then again what teenager isn’t, ya know? Even he said on election night “why would they run an unpopular woman against trump, when that’s what they did in 2016?”

So the republicans do all the dirty work. They repeal abortions. They kill healthcare. They kill public services. Meanwhile, the democrats don’t lift a finger and just say “Oh noooooo, look what they’re doing. Awful. Just awful. Wish there was something we could do…”

We are not living in a democracy. You did not chose the leader. Regardless of who you voted for, your vote didn’t count. It doesn’t even matter who the president is. They’re a figurehead. The real ruling party isn’t even in politics. It’s corporate owners who now do hitler salutes at inaugurations. Just to show they can get away with it. The real rulers are guys with billions of dollars who have bought and paid for this country long ago.

Look at the health regulations of Europe. Scientists in the 1970s discovered red dye #3 causes cancer. Europe banned it. Europe bans a LOT of things that cause cancer.

Explain to me why USA knew it caused cancer, and yet 2025 is the year we made the bill to ban it, which won’t take effect until 2027. I’ll tell you. Big food brands have been paying to keep it legal. I would bet they have only recently found a cheaper way to dye their foods. So now they don’t need it anymore. So no more payoffs.

We are not living in a society where anyone has your back. Your blue president doesn’t have your best interest at heart. Your red president doesn’t have your best interest at heart. And all the citizens fighting saying “no my guy wins” “no MY guy wins!” is all just a wave of the hand. Look over here. Distract yourself and divide yourself from your neighbors, while we take away your rights, your power, your ability to survive. It’s all theater. It’s all an act. It’s pro wrestling levels of predetermined. You can vote for this guy, or you can vote for that guy. Either way, fuck you, fuck your rights, but here’s a donkey and an elephant. Fight over them while quality of life continually diminishes.

  • I know people don’t want to hear it but can we expect non-techies to meet techies half way by leveling their tech skill tree?

In order to charge her iphone, my mom first turns on airplane mode, and THEN she powers it down. Turns it off completely. I asked why she does any of that. She says “Because they won’t flip the charge switch for me until they do! I wish I could take the battery out first, and THEN turn off the phone. But I suppose if they can’t see my battery with airplane mode on first, this is just as good.”

And you want this woman to learn terminal?
