That post by Merc has a lot of good ideas, when it comes to it, USA is making a lot more money on services, that could be freely copied, while USA is way more dependent on actual goods.
In such a trade war, I think USA would surely lose.

I must admit that I’m curious if there are any goods from Canada that USA depends on. It could be hilarious if Canada chose to tax EXPORTS of such goods. Increasing US prices even more. Problem is I don’t think there is much to do that on if any at all.
But an American lumber crisis like 2021 caused by Canadian export taxes undermining the entire US real estate market could be fun. 😋
Maybe Canada could tax oils exports, as USA despite being the biggest producer in the world, is still dependent on huge oil Imports.

But we recently had a report on how Tesla had record high failure rate on mandatory safety checks after 4 years here in Denmark. So maybe that will detract from the “best option” bullshit.
Tesla claims to have cheaper servicing, but if the cars aren’t legally road worthy, when adhering to manufacturer service recommendations, that’s just another bullshit claim.
I’ve seen reviews where they point out cheaper maintenance of Tesla as a HUGE advantage, making them cheapest car to own in their category. This has annoyed me a little, because I’m a little bit in love with the Skoda Enyaq, but it cost about twice in maintenance than a Tesla Y. Well maybe there’s a reason for that, and it doesn’t annoy me anymore. Because if you follow recommendations for the Skoda it’s actually maintained, the Tesla is not. The same for all other VW family cars, they are a bit expensive to maintain, but I’ve NEVER heard about problems like with Tesla on safety on any VW-group car.

Since Musk claimed in 2022 that a 50% growth per year would be normal for Tesla. And people are stupid enough to partially believe him. In January 2024 Musk promised 2024 would be a HUGE growth year, with autonomous RoboTaxi being launched in June. He claimed it’s LITERALLY only 5 months away!!!

No I did not, I very consciously made some comparisons to both, and some separately because USA used this tactic successfully against both Russia and the Soviet Union.
Soviet Union and Russia are NOT the same. But the tactic worked for half a century against them. And can still work against Russia, except if China goes all in on supporting Russia.
I think you can effectively compete with China but you would need a giant coalition of democratic countries that would move fast and stay focused.

I’ve been cursing our (Denmark) government for cutting education and reducing taxes for 20 years. Instead of increasing education, and focus and invest in the sectors we are good at.
