Doctors and nurses look at the chart and put them back before leaving the room. Charts should never leave the patient. It prevents problems like this. Also always check patient ID wristbands. Just pretend you are checking their IV or pulse monitor so they don’t feel like you forgot who they are.
Not only that, they’re supposed to double-check your name and date of birth to make sure the paperwork wasn’t switched for spme reason
Yup. I go to an office run by Mayo. Introductions from anyone entering the room go like: “How are you? Good? Good. Can I get your last name and date of birth?”
They look down at whatever piece of paper they’re holding and make sure it matches. I figure it helps prevent all kinds of accidents.
